“Your day will come”. – with this short message posted on Twitter, Mercedes wanted to comfort Carlos Sainz for the lack of success in Canada through an image that immortalizes Lewis Hamilton’s embrace of the Ferrari driver. At the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal, Carlos Sainz tried everything to overtake the Red Bull of Max Verstappen in the last ten laps of the race, but the Dutchman never made a mistake, denying Carlos once again the joy of his first victory in Formula 1.

During his F1 career, there have been several moments in which Carlos Sainz came close to securing his first win, but each time had to settle for second place, one step away from he top spot. Scuderia Ferrari team principal Mattia Binotto pointed out that Carlos Sainz still has to learn to build his success, as the Ferrari boss explained that victory is built with so many details starting from Qualifying.

Two years ago in Pierre Gasly took advantage of a very lucky combination of strategy, safety car and red flag and was able to fly towards victory. By radio Carlos Sainz had amply warned the pitwall that he was worried about Pierre Gasly’s lead while he was busy overtaking the drivers that separated him from the Frenchman, who was far enough away not to give Carlos Sainz even a chance before the end of the race.

In the 2021 Russian Grand Prix, Carlos Sainz was very aggressive at the start, but even before the race was devastated by the rain, his former teammate Lando Norris had passed him during the pit stop stage. In Monaco, on the other hand, Carlos has scored two second places: last season Carlos missed out on completing his final Q3 lap due to a crash suffered by Charles Leclerc. This year, however, Nicholas Latifi took away his victory, slowing Carlos Sainz on his exit lap and giving Red Bull and Sergio Perez the chance to overtake the Spaniard.
