With the two victories achieved in the first three Grand Prix of the 2022 Formula One season, Scuderia Ferrari has returned to the top of the world rankings after several difficult years and is now considered to be the team to beat in 2022. In 2017 and 2018, Ferrari came close to putting an end to the Mercedes dominance in Formula 1, but eventually did not manage to challenge their rivals in the second part of the seasons. Now things look completely different, with the Maranello team able to gain significant performance with the F1-75 car certainly did not go unnoticed.
Toto Wolff, for example, revealed that he was very surprised by the Italian side’s success, admitting that not even Mercedes, the dominant team of the hybrid era, had ever managed to achieve such a great leap in performance during their run of titles. The Mercedes team boss has singled out the Maranello team for praise on the power unit front, as Ferrari found a lot of power over the course of the winter ahead of the 2022 Formula 1 campaign. Below is an excerpt from his analysis reported by Racingnews365:
“I think we have seen a massive jump from Ferrari from last year to this one,” Toto Wolff said in an interview for Sky Sports F1 during the Australian Grand Prix weekend at the Albert Park Circuit in Melbourne – “[Ferrari went] from probably 10kw down to 10kw up, and that is something we have never achieved in the past. But, if that happened, all credit to them.” – the Mercedes boss admitted.
