Let’s take a look at the data relating to the top speed and the time at maximum throttle from the second free practice session for the 2023 Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix at the 5.278-kilometre Albert Park Circuit in Melbourne:
Top speed from FP2:
As expected, the Red Bull RB19 was once again on another level top speed-wise in the second free practice session for the 2023 Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix: +8/9km/h over all its competitors! (Aston Martin, Mercedes and Scuderia Ferrari)
The good laptime of the Alpine was helped by their good top speed
The ‘usual’ McLaren rear wing is more appropriate here than in Jeddah and allows them to have a decent top speed
By comparing the Ferrari acceleration along the straights to other teams it seems that the SF-23 cars were slightly more turned-down than other engines.
The Aston Martin car was able to use full throttle the most, but Mercedes was very close despite running the hard compound!
This might indicate:
-High drag and downforce
-Low power unit mode
-Great mechanical grip
