F1 | Singapore, McLaren wins the championship if… all the scenarios and Ferrari’s remaining hopes
The Singapore Grand Prix could be the decisive stage of the 2025 Formula 1 season, with McLaren in a position to seal the constructors’ championship. The team from Woking has dominated this year and now has the chance to celebrate its second consecutive title, leaving Ferrari and Mercedes with only faint hopes of keeping the battle alive.
McLaren stands on the brink of its tenth constructors’ crown in Formula 1 history. The calculations are clear: if Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri bring home just 13 points in Marina Bay, the championship will already belong to McLaren, regardless of what Ferrari and Mercedes achieve. Even though Max Verstappen and Red Bull have shown flashes of competitiveness, the MCL39 remains the benchmark car of 2025, the machine to beat on every circuit.
The statistics confirm McLaren’s dominance. Across the season, the British outfit has scored 12 victories, seven of them 1–2 finishes, backed up by 14 podiums from Oscar Piastri and 13 from Lando Norris. This remarkable haul highlights a technical superiority that many in the paddock thought would be challenged more fiercely. While the battle behind McLaren has been intense, with Ferrari, Mercedes and Red Bull trading places, none have truly matched the relentless pace of the papaya cars.
The chasing pack is tightly bunched. Mercedes with its W16, Ferrari with the SF-25 and Red Bull with the RB21 have been closely matched both on track and in the championship standings. This three-way fight is expected to continue all the way to the season finale in Abu Dhabi. But in Singapore, McLaren could mathematically shut the door on all their rivals and wrap up the title for team principal Andrea Stella and his crew.
McLaren can clinch in Singapore: only 13 points needed
With three sprint weekends and four traditional Grand Prix weekends still left to run, there are 346 points up for grabs in the constructors’ championship. After the Azerbaijan round, McLaren’s lead over the nearest challenger – now Mercedes – stands at 333 points. That means Norris and Piastri only need to collect 13 more points in Singapore to make the title official.
For Mercedes, the challenge is already enormous. To keep their hopes alive, the Silver Arrows must outscore McLaren by at least 31 points under the lights of Marina Bay. The task is even tougher for Ferrari. The Scuderia from Maranello needs to gain 35 points more than McLaren in a single weekend to avoid elimination from the title fight. That mountain is made steeper by the consistent form of both McLaren drivers.
For Ferrari to achieve that swing, one of their drivers – Charles Leclerc or Lewis Hamilton – would have to win the race, scoring 25 points, while the other could finish no lower than fifth, adding 10 more. That precise combination would give Ferrari the 35 points required to stay mathematically in contention. Any other result would fall short: even a second and third place finish would only provide 33 points, not enough to prolong the battle.
As the paddock heads to Singapore, McLaren’s opportunity is clear. The constructors’ title could be decided under the floodlights at Marina Bay, leaving Ferrari and Mercedes focusing on the fight for second place, while Andrea Stella and his team celebrate a historic back-to-back championship.
