Max’s boredom
Max Verstappen’s Sunday on the streets of Monte Carlo was marked by boredom. Several times over the radio, the Dutchman from the Red Bull team joked with his pit wall, asking them to provide him with a pillow so he could take a nap. It was impossible to change his starting position of sixth, which remained the same until the final lap under the checkered flag, especially with the early red flag that allowed all four leading drivers to reach the finish line without needing to change tires.
Yawns aside, Max Verstappen wanted to gracefully acknowledge the success of his peer Charles Leclerc after the race, who finally managed to break the curse that had always kept him off the podium on the Monaco track despite having secured pole positions in 2021 and 2022.
Applause for the winner
This time it was the right one for the Ferrari driver, who started in front and stayed in the lead for all 78 laps. “He did everything right this weekend,” Max Verstappen told reporters after the Monaco Grand Prix, referring to Charles Leclerc amazing performance in Monte Carlos starting from the first free practice session on Friday. “He’s had a lot of bad luck in recent years, so I’m definitely happy for him.” – the Red Bull driver added.
As for his own race, the three-time Formula One world champion used a good dose of irony to comment on it: “I’ve needed to go to the bathroom since lap 20,” Max Verstappen joked. “That was probably the hardest part of the race.” A clear message: the weekend in the Principality will be one for the #1 from Hasselt to quickly forget.
