F1 | Max Verstappen discusses Ferrari, admitting it’s every driver’s dream
Max Verstappen is thinking about Ferrari: on the eve of the Italian Grand Prix at Monza, he reveals what could convince him to sign with the Scuderia.
Ferrari is the dream of every driver in Formula 1, but Max Verstappen believes that the badge alone isn’t enough. The Dutchman does not rule out a future at Maranello, but he emphasizes that he wouldn’t wear red solely for the historic value of the brand. The objective must be to win, because in the Formula 1 circus, that’s all that matters. Still, after 2026, many uncertainties remain.
“Ferrari should consider Max Verstappen when Lewis Hamilton retires; he is the other number one on the grid,” said Pino Allievi on the podcast “Terruzzi Racconta,” recently inviting Maranello to evaluate the Dutchman for the team’s future. It’s an enticing scenario that could ideally see the four-time world champion alongside Charles Leclerc, widely regarded as one of the few drivers at his level.
Max Verstappen opens the door to Ferrari – but with a condition
Speaking to journalists in Monza, including F1inGenerale.com reporters, Verstappen did not completely close the door on the Scuderia: “They already have two drivers under contract for next year, so there’s no discussion. Is it possible? Well, anything is possible in life. But at the moment, it’s not in my plans. And I don’t even know how much longer I’ll be racing in Formula 1; there are still many unknowns.”
“Hamilton, this year, has a very strong teammate in Leclerc, who knows the team well and speaks good Italian,” Max Verstappen continued, commenting on the British driver’s performance. “It’s never easy to join a new team and immediately beat a teammate who is so well integrated.” – the Red Bull man pointed out.
“Ferrari is a huge brand, and many drivers dream of driving for them. But I think it’s a mistake to go there ‘just because it’s Ferrari.’ If one day I were to go, it would only be to win. Winning with Ferrari is special, but you can’t let emotion guide you; you have to choose because you believe it’s the right place to achieve results. With next year’s regulation changes, the grid could be reshuffled again.” – the four-time Formula 1 world champion concluded ahead of the Italian Grand Prix.
