Carlos Sainz grabbed his first-ever pole position earlier today when he outpaced championship leader Max Verstappen, who survived a spin in an exciting rain-hit qualifying for the British Grand Prix and will start the race from second place ahead of the other F1-75 car of Charles Leclerc.
The 27-year-old Spanish driver clocked a best lap of one minute and 40.983 seconds to beat the Red Bull RB18 of Max Verstappen by 0.072 seconds in the final stages of a tense qualifying session that was held in treacherous wet conditions.
Carlos Sainz’s first pole position came ahead of what will be his 150th Formula 1 Grand Prix start in Sunday’s race, just two weeks after he was very close to taking his first ever F1 win, but in the end had to settle for a second place finish after he was not able to overtake Max Verstappen in a thrilling finish at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal.
The biggest concern for the fans of the Maranello team heading into tomorrow’s British Grand Prix at the Silverstone Circuit weekend is whether or not Ferrari’s F1-75 cars will be able to reach the chequered flag without any technical issues after a series of reliability problems that affected Carlos Sainz but mainly Charles Leclerc during the last few races.
“Every single race is different. We’ve got fresh components and I hope that we will not have any issuesI hope that we will not have any issues this weekend but you never know when it comes to reliability,” Mattia Binotto said in his post-qualifying interview, as the Maranello team will be hoping to capitalize on the P1 and P3 starts in the British Grand Prix.

“I think it’s a concern for us, maybe for the others as well, it’s a concern for everyone. It’s certainly an important element, a key element for the result but we are focused on the race we are not thinking of reliability, at least for this weekend, and hopefully they will cross the chequered flag in the right positions.” – Scuderia Ferrari Team Principal Mattia Binotto concluded after the qualifying session for the 2022 British Grand Prix.
