German automobile magazine Auto Motor und Sport reports that reports that Red Bull‘s GPS data are showing that the Mercedes are very quick in the slow corners despite running with a significantly lower power mode in the pre-season testing session at the Bahrain International Circuit.
Mercedes engineers say that in return, they are losing a lot in fast corners and claim that they are not bluffing: “We’re not bluffing. The porpoising issues are real. And they’re keeping us from understanding and developing the car at the moment.”

According to Auto Motor und Sport, a Mercedes insider claimed that “Red Bull and us are in the same boat, we are not in our normal form. If there was a race on Sunday, Ferrari would win by a clear margin. And the alarming thing is that the other teams are right behind us.”
One observer gave an interesting verdict: “Maybe Ferrari is not the fastest car in the field. But it is the car that is easiest to drive at the moment. And that brings the lap time.” while Red Bull’s Helmut Marko added: “This year it may take three to four races before we know who has the fastest car.”
The German automobile magazine also informs that Scuderia Ferrari Team Principal Mattia Binotto believes the first race in the 2022 Formula 1 season will be decided more by reliability than speed. Everything will depend on how much porpoising/bouncing which the team will allow. More porpoising means a faster car, but is also more strenuous for the material.
