Scuderia Ferrari team principal Mattia Binotto took part in the press conference ahead of the 2022 Formula Emilia Romagna GP at the Imola circuit. During the press conference, the Ferrari boss denied the reports that the Maranello team increased the power after evaluating the reliability data. He explained that they worked on reliability over the winter and been running the maximum power since the start of the 2022 Formula 1 championship.
Mattia Binotto was then asked about the speed differences (top speed) between Red Bull and the Italian side’s F1-75 cars: he mentioned that when the Red Bull put more downforce on their car, same rear wing, the speed on the straights is similar, which means that it depends on what compromises each team does, based on their simulations for the specific track. Mattia Binotto also explained that Ferrari F1-75 car has low/medium downforce rear wings, so when they come to tracks which require such a configuration, they will obviously use them.
When asked why the Ferrari cars are fast despite the porpoising effect as compared to the others, the Ferrari boss admitted he does not know why the others are slower. Ferrari are working to fix the porpoising, because it is also not pleasant for the drivers, even in the corners. Mattia Binotto said that it has been a great start for Ferrari and certainly nice that they are leading the championship. But he said the balance can quickly change so they are cautious.
