Scuderia Ferrari ends the 2021 Italian Grand Prix with Charles Leclerc’s fourth place and Carlos Sainz’s sixth, bringing home an unexpected and positive result according to the expectations for this weekend. The Prancing Horse, despite some technical difficulties encountered on its home track, was able to exploit the incident of Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen, coming close even to a podium finish in front if the home fans.
A race that satisfied everyone in Maranello, starting with team principal Mattia Binotto, who commented on the outcome of the race in an interview for Sky Sport F1: “The race went well – he analyzed – we knew it was a difficult weekend for us. All in all it is a decent result, and I want to congratulate McLaren. We were overtaken immediately after the Safety Car, but it is normal because we know that top speed is still our weakness; if we look at the constructors’ standings it is not a good result, but we have to analyze what the expectations were, and we have always managed to stay close to the leading group as well, which is the best aspect of the weekend”. – he explained.
Mattia Binotto also analyzed the pace of the SF21: “The pace was good, especially in the first sector – he explained – at the exit from the Ascari we suffered towards the Parabolica, and therefore on the last and first straight we were quite vulnerable. The proof was the restart after the Safety Car, where we paid in this regard. McLaren has adapted well to this type of track, and it is not certain that the same thing will happen to us in the next rounds. We always give our best, there are some tracks where we should be better. There were twenty horses of difference and it has been seen – he concluded – but we must not lose morale, we are also working on it with a view to next season. Too bad we lost points, but it was a solid race that must give us confidence. It was very nice to welcome the Olympic champions, they are an example of how you can win.” – the Ferrari boss concluded.
