Scuderia Ferrari Team Principal Mattia Binotto on the Maranello team’s current work for the 2021 project: “The engine is running well in the dyno, it’s doing good progresses. I don’t feel we will be the less powerful next year at all. Eventually we will be back in the battle in terms of engine power. On the aero, the drag [issue] has been addressed. I think we will be certainly more competitive than today, it will be less painful. It will be a step forward but let’s see how much. On the downforce, Mercedes has a very strong car, so I don’t think we can match what they have. When I look at both the power and the aero for 2021, the projects are progressing very well if I compare it to the last seasons. But the gap is very big.”
Mattia Binotto about Charles: “I think this year, Charles drove even better to last year. With a difficult car as he got this year, he has been strong, consistent, he has been able to adapt himself to the various track layouts, try to extract the most of the potential of the car. As a driver he developed a lot. He is stronger compared to to what he was. He is very linked, connected, committed to the team. I think our people feel it very well. I like the way he is part of our family. I appreciate his commitments.”
Binotto on if he sees similarities between Charles/Michael: “Both very talented drivers. Charles is certainly a talent when driving, he is fast, capable of overtaking, he is fantastic in defending. Winning is a clear objective for him, he always wants to win. Second place is never satisfying for Charles as it wasn’t for Michael. But Charles is a lot younger. Michael was a leader when he arrived, Charles is developing as a leader, but he is developing well.”
