There have been several big changes at Scuderia Ferrari ahead of the 2019 Formula One season, in the form of new boss Mattia Binotto, who replaces Maurizio Arrivabene and the young Monégasque racing driver Charles Leclerc signed up to be Sebastian Vettel’s teammate. Australian former professional racing driver Mark Webber belives his former teammate Sebastian Vettel will step up his game, as the talented Charles Leclerc will look to impress in his first Formula One season alongside the Maranello team:
“Given the situation Ferrari were in after 2018, they had to change something.” – Mark Webber said, as reported by British Media earlier today – “There was a lot of pressure and now this is a new opportunity for Seb.”
As for whether the youngster Charles Leclerc can really challenge the four-time Formula One world champion, the former Red Bull driver added: “It is his big chance in a big team, but first he has to get experience. I think he could give Seb a headache, especially in the qualifying sessions, but I think Seb is ready for that. Personally I like Leclerc a lot. He’s good for the sport, he’s intelligent, fast, I would call him almost elegant. He is also a real fighter.” – Mark Webber explained.
As for his countryman Daniel Ricciardo’s decision to leave Red Bull, Mark Webber is not so sure: “He’s made a bet and he wants to win it, unquestionably,” he said. “What I do know is that Red Bull was very fair with him. Time will tell. Renault has a lot of excellent people, so if Renault can improve their performance, Danny will be there.” – the Australian concluded.
