26 GPs completed without scoring any points: the long series of results for Mick Schumacher out of the Top 10 in Formula 1 does not really seem to come to an end, since the Ferrari junior made his Formula 1 debut with Haas in 2021.
But while last season it was almost entirely taken for granted that it was impossible to score points given the poor pace of the American team’s car, this year the situation is different: unlike his teammate Kevin Magnussen, who has been able to collect 15 points in the first five rounds of 2022, Mick Schumacher has not yet managed to finish in the top 10, even though he came very close in Miami.
However, in the United States, that goal faded following an accident with the Aston Martin of Sebastian Vettel, as the reported damage sent him to the back of the grid.
Former Formula 1 driver Marc Surer also spoke about that incident, commenting on what happened in Florida as follows: “If Schumacher had remained behind Vettel, he would have scored points anyway – admitted the 70-year-old Swiss in an interview with motorsport-total.com – the main mistake was Mick’s, because he was nervous at that moment ”.
The maneuver carried out by the number 47 has only increased the general controversy towards the 23-year-old, who at the moment is still the only one without points together with Canadian Nicholas Latifi of Williams. Yet, Marc Surer believes there are positive aspects that should not be underestimated, such as the progress made by the German in the second half of the season, typical of his career in the minor categories: “This was his strong point – added the Swiss – in the end he also won races and the championship, and that’s how I see it now. At the beginning of the season he had a huge gap from Magnussen, who has more experience and knows the team. It was obviously an unfair comparison, but now he has found a solution, he is becoming more constant, while Magnussen has fluctuations ” – he added.

In conclusion, Marc Surer expressed a quick personal assessment of the son of the seven-time Formula 1 world champion, going against the criticism and those who are accusing the Ferrari junior of finding himself in Formula 1 almost undeservedly: “I believe that Mick will be a good driver – he admitted – Mybe he will never become world champion, but I don’t rule out that possibility.” – the former F1 driver concluded.
