Formula 1 returns to Italy, although this year the atmosphere surrounding the Italian Grand Prix seems to have somewhat faded. The stands at Monza are nearly empty: on one hand, this is due to excessive prices, and on the other hand, due to Scuderia Ferrari’s poor performance in this 2023 Formula 1 championship.
And for those who were undecided, the Dutch Grand Prix left no room for doubt, as the Maranello team missed another important opportunity to perform well in a chaotic race where weather conditions could have been exploited much better. However, Marc Gené is convinced that on home turf, the Prancing Horse can perform well, as the characteristics of the Temple of Speed are similar to those of the 7.004-kilometre Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps in Stavelot, Belgium, where Charles Leclerc also secured a podium for the Italian side.
Conversely, Zandvoort resembled the Hungaroring more, another track where the SF-23 single-seater struggled a lot.
Echoing the words of Carlos Sainz, who expressed positivity ahead of the Monza weekend, the Spanish professional racing driver and Sky expert stated: “This was a difficult weekend for Ferrari, and it ended with a fifth place for Carlos Sainz, which I believe was the best he could aim for. Perhaps Pierre Gasly was the only surprise, no one expected him to be that strong. But now, the focus shifts to Monza, reminiscent of Spa-Francorchamps. And there, Ferrari performed well. That’s why Carlos Sainz was positive: he did his best in Zandvoort, and now comes an event that suits the Scuderia better.” – Marc Gene pointed out ahead of the 2023 Formula 1 Italian Grand Prix weekend.
