Given how the 2024 Formula 1 season ended, everyone was expecting an exciting and challenging 2025. Four teams and eight drivers fighting for the two world titles, it was said. Yet, the situation is completely different and we are once again witnessing a true dominance. But as many are saying, Barcelona will bring the turning point: the new rules are ready to rewrite this 2025.
McLaren currently seems completely untouchable. Five wins in the first six races and, in the last event in Miami, they crossed the finish line with almost a 40-second lead over the first of the “others.” Such dominance hasn’t been seen since 2023, when Max Verstappen with Red Bull managed to win every race except one.
No one seems able to seriously challenge the papaya team. The only one who tries in every way, often succeeding at least in qualifying, is the four-time world champion himself. Once he manages to start ahead, the Dutchman, aware that he’s going to lose a lot of time, defends his position with all his might, often putting the two young Woking drivers in difficulty.
The undisputed leadership, however, may not last much longer. Starting from the Barcelona GP, in fact, a new technical directive will come into effect banning any kind of wing flexing. According to many insiders, this will negatively affect McLaren, one of the teams whose components flex the most.
The situation, as reported by RacingNews365, is clear for Jonathan Wheatley. “What do I think of the new regulation coming into effect from Barcelona? It targets a very important element, which could truly offer a big advantage. In my opinion, it will bring a significant shake-up in the balance of power.” – he pointed out.
“Also, considering how tight the midfield is, a change like this could really make a difference. Us at Sauber? For now, we’re trying to understand all the developments we’ve introduced so far, so we can patent others that are more targeted.”
