Despite 18 rounds of the twenty-two races scheduled this season have been completed, the race for development has not yet ended, although it is slowly drawing to a close. The top teams have been the ones with most updates, despite the world championship race already ended, while the team in the center and back of the group still have some hope of improving their final place during the last four races this year.
The managers of the teams have stressed many times the importance of continuing development, given the fact that the sporting and technical regulation will mainly be the same in 2023, which means that any experience gained and advantages found on track for the current single-seater will also be maintained next season.
During the Asian head-to-head weekends, Red Bull has again refined the elements that make up the Venturi channels, although the changes were slight and hidden from the outside as they were concentrated on the floor. The Milton Keynes team has carried out numerous iterations of these components during the year, demonstrating a clear focus in this area of development
Scuderia Ferrari for its part has brought to Suzuka a new floor for the F1-75, which according to Mattia Binotto represents the last major update of the 2022 Formula 1 season. The new specification features a slight aerodynamic modification in the front and the centralization of the tie rod at the rear, accompanied by a possible different drafting of the carbon fiber. The Maranello team sought a better compromise between deformation control at high speeds, weight and aerodynamic obstruction. In fact, the new floor was designed to mitigate the excessive drag induced by the previous version.
At the center of the group, McLaren brought a substantial package of innovations to Singapore on Lando Norris’ car, which was then confirmed at Suzuka also on Daniel Ricciardo’s. The MCL36 underwent a 360 ° restyling, remodeling the flare of the sides starting from the contour of the air intakes, the diffuser and the Venturi channels, evolving the concept of the Red Bull school pursued from Barcelona onwards. Alpine, McLaren’s direct rivals in the championship, on the other hand, have brought a new floor, which according to the drivers has met expectations.

In the rear of the grid, Alfa Romeo revolutionized its front wing in Suzuka, widening the adjustable section and designing a different profile pattern. AlphaTauri has also redesigned its front wing, moving the main profile below the nose. Aston Martin finally changed the side edge of the floor, opening a vent inspired by Ferrari and McLaren.
