On the Tuesday following the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, the Formula 1 teams will return to the Yas Marina circuit for the last day of track action in the 2022 season, before the winter break.
As has been the case for years now, an intense day of testing will see twenty single-seaters on the track with each team that will have to allocate a car for the traditional ‘Young Drivers test’.
On the second car there will be the main drivers, who will be able to use Pirelli 2023 tires without a default work program.
The young drivers we will see at Yas Marina have mostly already been on the track during the year, on the occasion of the two FP1 sessions for ‘rookies’ made mandatory by the FIA starting with the current F1 campaign. However, there will be new combinations, and among the novelties the one that will attract the most attention will be Frederick Vesti, in front of his first ever test at the wheel of a Formula 1 single-seater.
The 20-year-old Dane will make his debut for Mercedes, taking on the role of third driver left empty by Nyck De Vries, who is also expected at the Yas Marina tests where he will run the first laps for AlphaTauri. Pato O’Ward will return to McLaren, who twelve months ago in the Abu Dhabi tests got the chance to drive a Formula 1 car for the first time, also for McLaren.

The line-ups Doohan-Alpine, Pourchaire-Alfa Romeo, Lawson-Red Bull and Drugovich-Aston Martin have been announced, all in the role of ‘third driver’ that will be confirmed for the 2023 season. For Scuderia Ferrari, Robert Shwartzman will complete in this post-Abu Dhabi test, while Pietro Fittipaldi will drive for Haas.
Yas Marina’s testing will be very special for Logan Sargeant, who will be on track two days after the conclusion of his Formula 2 season.
If, as expected, the American manages to obtain the F1 Super license, Tuesday’s test will be the first as an official Williams driver for the 2023 Formula 1 season, and after several months of nerve-wracking waiting he will finally be able to drive without being conditioned by his status.
