The format of the sprint race introduced in Baku was so well-received by the top brass that it convinced Liberty Media to increase the number of events for the 2024 Formula One season. According to what Italian journalist Roberto Chinchero reports on Motorsport, four more sprint races could be added to the six we will see throughout the 2023 championship.
Ten weekends of sprint races will be added to the 24 races scheduled in the 2024 calendar – including the return of the Chinese Grand Prix. This will make for a total of 34 events next season.
It’s a “crazy” proposal that may not be agreeable to everyone. While waiting to find out if Liberty Media’s idea can become a reality, the 2023 season’s share data will need to be analyzed first.
Meanwhile, as Roberto Chinchero explains, it has been learned that local organizers who were given the green light to host the sprint race format have committed to paying an extra amount compared to those who host the traditional program. It remains to be seen which tracks will be made available for this new form of entertainment.

There are those who may express discontent for a format that risks distorting the true meaning of Formula 1. It is also true that the innovation introduced at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix was well-received by most of the personalities in the paddock.
Among the few who opposed (at least in front of the cameras) were Max Verstappen, who publicly expressed his opposition, and Lewis Hamilton, who jokingly admitted to struggling to understand the constant program changes of the professionals involved.
