Lewis Hamilton made his frustration abundantly clear after a highly disappointing result in qualifying for the Hungarian Grand Prix. The seven-time Formula 1 World Champion failed to reach Q3 at the Hungaroring, an outcome that looked even worse when compared to his Scuderia Ferrari teammate Charles Leclerc, who secured an impressive pole position.
The British driver spoke to the media with visible difficulty following the session, appearing shaken and visibly disheartened by the situation. His latest qualifying struggles continue a difficult run of form: already at the Belgian Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton had failed to progress past Q1 in both qualifying sessions that weekend. During the free practice sessions in Hungary, it had seemed as though he had regained some of the lost performance, but once again, things did not come together when it mattered in qualifying.
Lewis Hamilton was unable to hide his disappointment after securing only 12th place on the grid for Sunday’s race. When he appeared for his post-qualifying interview, he was noticeably reserved and distant in his responses to journalists. After realising he had been eliminated in Q2, Hamilton was heard over the team radio saying: “Every time, every time.”
That cryptic message sparked curiosity, prompting media members to ask for clarification. Lewis Hamilton explained that his comment was not directed at any external factor or the team, but rather at himself. “I was only referring to myself,” the British driver clarified.
The Ferrari driver repeatedly said he could not understand the large performance gap between himself and Charles Leclerc. When pressed once more on the subject, Hamilton simply replied, “As I’ve said, I really don’t know. I don’t have an answer for you.”
Continuing the conversation with the media, Lewis Hamilton unexpectedly offered a provocative suggestion regarding Ferrari’s current situation—highlighting the frustration he feels over his own lack of performance. When asked if he had found something specific that could help improve his performance with the SF-25 car, Hamilton replied, “I’m useless, absolutely useless. The team have no problem. You’ve seen the car’s on pole. So we probably need to change driver.”
This shocking remark made it clear just how lost Hamilton felt after the qualifying session. Rather than blaming the car or the team, he chose to question his own role in the ongoing performance deficit compared to his teammate. The comment, made half-seriously and half in despair, also underlined the extreme pressure Lewis Hamilton is putting on himself as he continues to search for answers in this difficult chapter of his first season with Ferrari.
