It’s been three days since the Lewis Hamilton mania began among Ferrari fans. After the formal introductions with his new team, the obligatory photos, and his lap around Fiorano (where we were present too), it was time for him to meet the fans. The only problem? The language.
Sir Lewis doesn’t speak Italian yet and only managed to pronounce a few hesitant words, but there will be time to learn. In the meantime, one of Ferrari’s rival teams decided to have some fun with the situation.
While all eyes have been on the seven-time world champion these days, other teams have not stood idly by and seized the moment to make light of the big event. Among them, Red Bull couldn’t resist.
In a recent video posted on the Instagram profile of the Milton Keynes team, Max Verstappen can be seen saying a few words in Italian. The caption indirectly invites Lewis Hamilton to take lessons from the Dutchman: “Need an Italian tutor? Max is here to help.”
User comments left little to the imagination. Last September, after the Monza GP, Lewis Hamilton revealed during the Mercedes fan zone with former teammate George Russell that he had started taking Italian lessons.
“I’m trying. It’s so damn hard. It’s too hard!”
Last year, just weeks after the announcement of his move to Ferrari, Lewis Hamilton candidly admitted he would start keeping an eye on his weight: “Next year, I’m going to eat the most incredible pizzas. I’ll have to watch my weight because I simply love Italian food.”
