Lewis Hamilton will race for Scuderia Ferrari in Formula 1, but what about 2024? The rumors were true, the dream of thousands of fans will come true: Lewis Hamilton will join Maranello in 2025, replacing Carlos Sainz. A signature that seemed impossible but, thanks to the determination of Frédéric Vasseur and John Elkann, has become a reality. The questions now shift to 2024.
The deal of the century has concluded; Lewis Hamilton will drive a Ferrari from 2025. An agreement that hits Formula 1 like a bolt from the blue, but seems to be the result of months of negotiations. Whether the arrival of Loic Serra convinced the Englishman or the dream of an eighth title in Red prevailed, at this moment, it matters little.
After the initial enthusiasm, however, it remains to be seen what will happen in the upcoming season. Both for Mercedes and Ferrari, a transition year looms, at least from the perspective of their drivers. It’s hard to expect a setback in technical terms: the new cars from Maranello and Brackley will aim to recover even more ground on the Red Bulls.
But how much will this early announcement weigh – even before the 2024 presentations – on relationships in the garage? Both Carlos Sainz and Lewis Hamilton will not have access to information reserved for their teammates, especially in terms of development for 2025. Of course, it’s a scenario that could have a relative impact on on-track performances but risks compromising morale in the pits.
It is in the interest of both drivers to perform well. The Englishman does not want to leave Brackley with the label of a “traitor,” which some less generous users have already affixed to him on social media. The Spaniard, on the other hand, in addition to the sense of revenge that could harm his on-track relationship with Charles Leclerc, wants to increase his value in view of his next contract.
We can only await the next developments in this story: who will replace Lewis Hamilton at Mercedes? What future in Formula 1 for Carlos Sainz? Only time will provide the right answers.
