Lewis Hamilton agrees with Max Verstappen on one of the most debated topics in Singapore
Following a highly controversial weekend in Singapore, Lewis Hamilton found himself agreeing with Max Verstappen on one of the most talked-about subjects in the paddock. The Marina Bay weekend offered no shortage of discussions and disputes, from the questionable television direction to the introduction of the FIA’s new cooling vests for drivers. Both the FIA and Liberty Media are expected to have plenty to discuss during the break before the United States Grand Prix in Austin.
Extreme heat and the new FIA cooling vests
One of the biggest talking points in Singapore was the use of the cooling vests introduced for the first time this season. The FIA declared a state of “extreme heat” for the Singapore Grand Prix, prompting debate among drivers and teams. Both Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen expressed identical views on the matter, agreeing that the decision to wear the vests should be left to the drivers themselves.

Hamilton and Verstappen in rare agreement
Speaking about the FIA’s move to encourage — and potentially mandate — the use of the new cooling gear, Max Verstappen made his stance clear: he does not support the idea of making it compulsory. His opinion was soon echoed by Lewis Hamilton, who openly agreed with his long-time rival.
“I don’t think they should force drivers to wear them,” Hamilton said. “They keep telling us it’s a matter of safety, but no one has ever died from being too hot during a race. I think it should be up to us to decide whether to use them or not. Of course, in some conditions they might be helpful, but we shouldn’t be obliged to wear them.”
Lewis Hamilton’s comments reflected a rare alignment between two of Formula 1’s fiercest competitors, showing that even rivals can find common ground when it comes to driver freedom and personal comfort in extreme race conditions.
