Lewis Hamilton’s second-place finish at the Monaco Grand Prix was more than just another strong result in what is becoming an increasingly impressive 2026 Formula 1 campaign. For the seven-time world champion, standing on the podium in Monte Carlo represented the reward for years of perseverance, resilience and belief during one of the most challenging periods of his career.
After securing P2 behind race winner Kimi Antonelli, Lewis Hamilton was asked what message he would like to share with the fans who have supported him throughout his journey. His response offered a rare glimpse into the emotional side of a comeback that many in Formula 1 doubted would ever happen.
Over the past few seasons, Lewis Hamilton has faced criticism, difficult results and constant questions about whether he could still compete at the highest level. Yet as Ferrari continues to make progress and the British driver establishes himself as a regular podium contender once again, he made it clear that his supporters played a major role in helping him reach this point.
Lewis Hamilton thanks fans for standing by him
Speaking after the Monaco Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton paid tribute to the fans who continued to believe in him even when results were not going his way.
“To my fans, I have to continue to show praise and gratitude to the ones who have been with me since day one. Last year was the hardest year for them who supported me and for them to continue to hold on and continue to believe in me and remind me of who I am and remind me of what I can do. I literally wouldn’t be standing here today without my fans.”
The comments reflected just how difficult the previous season had been for both Lewis Hamilton and the people who have followed his career for nearly two decades. While many outside observers questioned whether his best years were behind him, his fanbase remained loyal and continued to back him through some frustrating moments.
Hamilton acknowledged that support and revealed how much the messages he receives throughout the year mean to him.
“The letters, the messages, seeing them on the race weekends, the support that they’ve showered me with so much love, I will never forget that. And I hope that they’re happy with the results that we’ve finally got back. I think perseverance is really the name of this message.”
A comeback built on belief and determination
There is a growing sense that Lewis Hamilton is enjoying his strongest period since the beginning of Formula 1’s ground-effect era. His podium in Monaco was another reminder that he remains one of the sport’s most competitive drivers when given the right tools.
What makes his recent performances particularly significant is that they come after years of struggling with cars that often failed to suit his driving style. At times, it appeared that the former dominance which delivered seven world championships had become a distant memory.
However, the Ferrari driver never stopped believing he could return to the front of the grid. That determination formed the core of the message he wanted fans to take away from his Monaco result: “The truth is you can never give up. You can never give up and you can never stop believing in yourself. Even when everyone around you is not believing in you.”
Those words could easily be interpreted as a reflection of Lewis Hamilton’s own journey over the last few years. Despite the criticism and the setbacks, he continued to trust the process and keep working toward better results.
Why Monaco could be a turning point
Lewis Hamilton’s second-place finish in Monaco was not simply another podium. It reinforced the growing belief that Ferrari is becoming a genuine threat near the front of the field and that Lewis Hamilton is once again capable of consistently challenging for top results.
With the British driver now firmly in the championship fight and Ferrari showing signs of continued progress, the mood around the team is very different compared to a year ago.
Yet even after one of his strongest weekends in recent memory, Lewis Hamilton’s focus remained on the values that helped him reach the pinnacle of the sport in the first place.
“This thing is pulling you down. You’ve got to keep fighting. Keep going.
Keep giving it everything you’ve got.”
For many Formula 1 fans, those words may prove just as memorable as the podium itself. They show that Lewis Hamilton’s story in Formula 1 is still being written and that perseverance, rather than talent alone, has been one of the defining themes of his remarkable career.
