While Formula 1 fans are used to seeing Charles Leclerc battling for podiums and victories on race weekends, the Ferrari driver recently showed a more relaxed and playful side of his personality in a new promotional video for Chivas Regal.
The Monegasque driver took part in a light-hearted question-and-answer segment as part of the brand’s latest campaign, offering supporters a glimpse into how he thinks when faced with a challenge far removed from the pressures of Formula 1. One of the questions posed to Charles Leclerc was simple but intriguing: what three items would he take with him if he were stranded on a deserted island?
His answer was practical, modern and perhaps not entirely surprising for someone who spends much of his life travelling around the world.
Charles Leclerc’s survival plan
Without much hesitation, Charles Leclerc revealed the three essentials he would choose.
“I’ll go for a solar panel, a charger and an iPhone. At least on my phone I can read books, watch movies and do all that kind of stuff.”
The response immediately sparked smiles among fans, as it perfectly reflected the realities of modern life. While many people might choose food, tools or luxury items, Charles Leclerc focused on staying connected and entertained.
His answer also highlighted one of the benefits of today’s technology. With a smartphone and a reliable power source, access to books, films, information and communication tools can all be condensed into a single device.
A different side of the Ferrari star
Over the years, Formula 1 supporters have come to know the 28-year-old as one of the most talented drivers on the grid, but moments like these help reveal the personality behind the helmet.
Away from the intensity of race weekends, the Ferrari driver is often seen taking part in brand campaigns, fan interactions and interviews that showcase his humour and relaxed character. Whether discussing life in Formula 1, sharing stories from the paddock or answering unexpected questions, Charles Leclerc has developed a reputation for being approachable and authentic, qualities that have helped him build one of the largest fanbases in the sport.
The Chivas Regal video is another example of how commercial partnerships increasingly allow Formula 1 drivers to connect with fans beyond the racetrack. Rather than focusing solely on racing, these campaigns often provide insight into personal preferences, habits and interests that supporters would not normally get to see during a Grand Prix weekend.
Keeping things simple
Although the question was hypothetical, Charles Leclerc’s answer revealed a straightforward approach. Instead of overthinking the scenario, he chose a combination that would allow him to stay occupied for as long as possible.
Books, films and digital content all accessible through a single device, powered by renewable energy, might not be the most adventurous survival strategy, but it is certainly an efficient one.
For Formula 1 fans, however, the real takeaway was not the items themselves. It was another opportunity to see the lighter side of Charles Leclerc, whose personality continues to shine through in moments away from the competitive environment of the Formula 1 paddock.
