Ferrari, Hamilton is just one race away from writing history in a ‘negative’ way! He’ll need a miracle in the USA…
Lewis Hamilton is on the verge of setting a rather unwanted record in his first season with Scuderia Ferrari. The seven-time Formula 1 world champion has shown flashes of improvement in recent races, finding a better rhythm with the SF-25 and often staying closer to Charles Leclerc in terms of performance. However, despite these small steps forward, the results have not matched expectations, and Hamilton is now just one race away from making Ferrari history for all the wrong reasons — with the United States Grand Prix being his final chance to turn things around.
The recent Singapore Grand Prix once again proved difficult for Lewis Hamilton. The British driver had been managing a solid sixth place before suffering from a late-race brake issue. Forced to slow down to bring the car home safely, he eventually crossed the line in eighth after receiving a five-second penalty for exceeding track limits — an error caused by the braking problem itself. The penalty capped another frustrating weekend for the Briton, whose hopes of ending his podium drought were once again dashed. Now, with just one race left before matching a record no Ferrari driver would want, the Briton’s only chance to avoid this embarrassment lies in Austin.
Hamilton close to an unwanted record
Since joining Ferrari, the seven-time world champion has yet to stand on the podium in a Grand Prix with the team. The only exception came in China, where he claimed pole position and won the Sprint Race — a format not counted in official podium statistics. In traditional race records, Hamilton’s run has been remarkably barren, and if he fails to score a top-three finish in Austin, he will equal a long-standing negative milestone in the history of the Prancing Horse.
After the missed opportunity in Singapore, Hamilton has now tied Didier Pironi, who went 18 races before securing his first podium as a Ferrari driver. Should Hamilton fail to finish on the podium in Texas, he would join Pironi at the top of this unenviable list — marking a difficult and disappointing beginning to what was expected to be a historic collaboration between the British icon and the Maranello team.
When the partnership between Lewis Hamilton and Ferrari was announced, expectations were sky-high. Fans envisioned a story of redemption and glory — the legendary seven-time champion bringing the Italian team back to the top. However, the adaptation process has been far from smooth. The SF-25 has proven inconsistent and difficult to develop, and as the season has progressed, Ferrari’s performance has steadily declined compared to its main rivals. The once-promising car that looked capable of challenging for podiums before the summer break has now slipped back to being the fourth-fastest on the grid, as seen clearly in Singapore.
Despite the challenges, the Briton remains determined to break this streak and finally bring home a podium finish for Ferrari. Austin, however, will be no easy task. The Circuit of the Americas is a demanding track, and given Ferrari’s current form, the odds seem stacked against him. Yet Lewis Hamilton’s fighting spirit has never been in question, and both the driver and the team will be pushing to ensure this statistical low point doesn’t define his first year in red.
While the record itself may seem symbolic, it certainly carries weight within the walls of Maranello. For a driver of Lewis Hamilton’s stature, failing to secure a podium after nearly a full season would be a bitter pill to swallow — especially given the immense anticipation surrounding his move to Ferrari. The upcoming race in the United States may not determine the championship, but for the seven-time Formula 1 world champion, it could define how history remembers his debut season with the Scuderia. Avoiding this unwanted record would not only boost morale but also offer a small yet meaningful victory in a year filled with difficulties.
