Lewis Hamilton reveals new details about his Ferrari contract and comments on Oliver Bearman’s rise
Lewis Hamilton has provided fresh insight into his future with Scuderia Ferrari, addressing questions about the length of his current contract and reflecting on the emerging talent of young driver Oliver Bearman.
When Lewis Hamilton made the high-profile move to Ferrari at the start of the 2025 season, the team did not publicly clarify the duration of the seven-time Formula 1 world champion’s deal. Many assumed it was a two-year agreement, coinciding with the introduction of the new 2026 regulations. However, the British driver has now indicated that his commitment to Ferrari extends through the end of 2027, effectively securing a three-year tenure at Maranello.
The 2025 season has proven challenging for Lewis Hamilton. At 40 years old, he has set an unwelcome record for Ferrari, competing in 21 grands prix without securing a podium since joining the team. This difficult start has fueled speculation about potential replacements, especially with Haas driver and former Ferrari Academy talent Oliver Bearman making significant strides in his own F1 career.
In a conversation with media outlets, including RacingNews365, Lewis Hamilton was asked about potential contract extensions and when discussions might begin. He explained that his current agreement is “pretty long,” adding that typically contract negotiations start the year before expiration, but he is not yet approaching that stage. When asked if talks would commence in 2026, Hamilton clarified that it would not be the case.
Hamilton impressed by Bearman’s recent progress
Oliver Bearman has emerged as one of the most promising young talents in Formula 1, particularly in the closing races of the 2025 season. Despite a mid-season dip in form and a close call with a potential race ban, the Ferrari Driver Academy member has demonstrated remarkable consistency, collecting 24 of his 40 points in the last four grands prix. While a points penalty following a collision with Red Bull’s Liam Lawson temporarily pushed him to nine super licence points, he remains on track to finish inside the top 10 in the drivers’ standings.
Lewis Hamilton has publicly praised Ollie Bearman’s recent performances, describing his fourth-place finish at the Mexico City Grand Prix as “amazing” and expressing admiration for the young driver’s approach both on and off the track. He highlighted Ollie Bearman’s professionalism, approachability, and rapid development over the season, emphasizing that Haas has done an excellent job developing the car and supporting the young talent.
Reflecting on Ollie Bearman’s potential, the seven-time world champion noted that the rising star has every chance to establish himself as a consistent top-tier competitor in Formula 1. Lewis Hamilton described his own excitement about observing Oliver Bearman’s progress and indicated that the young driver’s trajectory is something that Ferrari and the wider paddock will be watching closely in the coming seasons.
With Ferrari preparing for a pivotal 2026 campaign under new regulations, Lewis Hamilton’s reassurance about his contract provides stability for the team while spotlighting the next generation of talent in F1.
