Lewis Hamilton is convinced he has finally understood what is limiting his Ferrari and is ready to solve the problem.
Lewis Hamilton does not hide that he is struggling in his first year at Ferrari, and there is one problem he hopes to fix. Coming off a sixth-place finish at the Italian Grand Prix, the seven-time world champion remains determined and convinced he can unlock the full potential of a difficult and not very competitive car.
Ahead of the Monza weekend, his first since joining the Maranello team, the British driver had positive feelings. The speed was there, as was the race pace. The biggest problem for Hamilton since his arrival at Ferrari? Adjusting to a different engine after spending eleven years at Mercedes.
Now Lewis feels he has understood what is holding him back. “What is clear to me is that I have been driving this car all year, but in my past years I was part of a car developed for me,” he admitted to the media at Monza.
“I was comfortable, and I knew the driving style inside out. This year I go out on track and have to apply that to my driving style, which is still alien and not natural for a car, as it should be,” he continued.
Lewis Hamilton has nevertheless remained optimistic and praised the progress made so far: “In the race I am improving more and more, getting faster and unlocking this confidence that unfortunately I don’t find at the start of the weekend.”
The focus is already shifting to 2026. “I hope that next year it will not be the driving style that feels alien to me, so we can go back to what I was used to before.”
After a week’s break, Formula 1 will return to racing in Baku for the Azerbaijan Grand Prix.
