Lewis Hamilton was forced to retire from the 2025 Brazil Grand Prix after sustaining significant damage to his Ferrari following incidents at the start of the race. It was a relatively unlucky weekend for both Lewis Hamilton and the Maranello team, with both Ferrari cars forced to retire due to contact with rivals. For Charles Leclerc, the key incident involved Oscar Piastri and Kimi Antonelli, while Hamilton experienced misfortune in collisions with Franco Colapinto and Carlos Sainz.
The seven-time Formula 1 world champion started from 13th on the grid, finding himself in the middle of the pack at Turn 1. Right from the start, he was involved in a collision with Carlos Sainz, which left him at the back of the field. Shortly afterward, another incident with Franco Colapinto caused Hamilton to lose his front wing. Even after a pit stop, his SF-25 was visibly undrivable, as the front wing had become lodged under the car, causing damage to the floor.
Lewis Hamilton unable to continue the race
Like his teammate, Lewis Hamilton retired from the Brazil GP due to the damage sustained on the first lap. The British driver explained the issues following the contact with Carlos Sainz at the start: “After the contact, it seemed like the rear suspension was broken, but I was told everything was fine.”
The collision with Franco Colapinto also severely affected the performance of the SF-25: “We lost a lot of downforce, I estimate about 30-40 points. On the fast sections, the car was very nervous. I was giving everything to stay with the drivers ahead, but there was no chance,” Lewis Hamilton added.
He also expressed his disappointment with how the weekend unfolded for the team: “Not finishing a race for the second time this year is truly devastating. I feel for the entire team. I also apologize for qualifying; I put myself in that position.” – the seven-time Formula 1 world champion concluded.
