Lewis Hamilton Backed by Fans Amid Tough Start to Life at Ferrari as Retirement Rumours Grow
Lewis Hamilton’s highly anticipated move to Ferrari has not unfolded as many had hoped, with the seven-time Formula 1 world champion enduring a challenging start to his tenure with the iconic Italian team. His struggles have prompted a wave of speculation about his future in the sport, with some questioning whether the 40-year-old should consider stepping away from F1 altogether.
So far in the 2025 Formula 1 campaign, Lewis Hamilton has secured a Sprint race victory in China and a Sprint podium in Miami, but he has otherwise found himself limited to lower points-paying finishes in Grand Prix events. In contrast, teammate Charles Leclerc has been the standout performer for Scuderia Ferrari, claiming three podium finishes in Saudi Arabia, Monaco, and Spain, further widening the performance gap between the two drivers.
Despite the difference in outright race results, the championship standings show a narrower margin, with only 23 points separating Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc. The British driver has gradually reduced the deficit, but his inconsistent form has led to increasing criticism—not only from pundits and media outlets but also from voices within the paddock. Some observers have gone so far as to suggest that Ferrari should begin exploring alternative driver options for 2026, despite the Briton being under contract until the end of that season.
Adding to the speculation, a portion of fans and analysts alike have questioned whether Lewis Hamilton should consider retirement. The conversation has gained traction on social media and within motorsport circles, especially as Ferrari continues its efforts to return to title-contending form.
However, a recent fan poll conducted by the RacingNews365 website revealed that a majority of respondents still believe Hamilton should remain on the grid. Only 44 percent of voters—ironically matching his iconic car number—felt that it may be time for him to call it a day. Interestingly, a small subset of that group, just under 4 percent, suggested a potential sabbatical might be the best course of action, giving Lewis Hamilton a chance to regroup and return with renewed motivation.
The poll results indicate that despite the difficult start, Lewis Hamilton continues to enjoy strong support from the global F1 fanbase. His decades-long legacy, numerous achievements, and undeniable talent have not been forgotten, and many still believe he has more to offer at the highest level of motorsport.
As Ferrari prepares to introduce key upgrades aimed at improving competitiveness in the second half of the season, Lewis Hamilton will be hoping that improved car performance can help turn his campaign around—and silence the growing chorus of doubters. For now, the 2025 Formula 1 season remains a crucial chapter in the twilight years of a legendary career, one that fans are clearly not ready to see end just yet.
