Lewis Hamilton has discovered the complexities of Ferrari politics in the toughest possible way. The British driver likely knew what to expect from his move to Maranello, yet he still found himself burned by certain internal dynamics that emerged throughout the year. He hinted at this through the media, with cryptic statements such as “You have no idea what goes on behind the scenes”. It is therefore easy to imagine what the multiple world champion thought when faced with John Elkann’s latest remark, in which the President declared that “the drivers should talk less and drive more”.
“If he wants, I’ll do fewer media sessions. Jokes aside, in this team we all have to play our part,” the British driver told The Race. In recent days Lewis Hamilton has sent out messages that almost sounded provocative, but when he faced the media ahead of the Las Vegas Grand Prix he managed to keep his emotions under control.
“I wake up thinking about this and I go to sleep thinking about this. Sometimes I even think about it while I’m sleeping. If there’s one thing, it’s that I need to switch off more. This has been a tough year, maybe the hardest I’ve ever had. I’ve spent more time at the factory here than at any point in my career, because I had so many things to do and so much to learn.” – the seven-time Formula 1 world champion concluded.
