After six rounds in the 2025 Formula 1 World Championship, the atmosphere at Ferrari is anything but calm. The Miami weekend confirmed the problems already seen in recent races: the SF-25 continues to struggle to extract performance, especially over a single lap. Lewis Hamilton, who joined Maranello this year with high expectations, spoke openly about a clear loss of performance: “We’ve lost something since China. The speed is there, but we can’t capitalize on it.”
What is Ferrari missing?
The only bright spot in Florida came during Saturday’s Sprint, where a brilliant strategic call allowed Lewis Hamilton to take an excellent third place. But the problems resurfaced clearly in qualifying: both drivers were eliminated in Q2, which compromised the race, with Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton finishing ninth and eighth respectively, over a minute behind the McLarens.
“In general, it wasn’t a bad weekend,” explained the seven-time world champion. “But when you see you’re fighting with the Williams cars, it’s clear something’s not right. They did a great job, we didn’t.”
Lewis Hamilton then referred to the Shanghai weekend, where he claimed his first win in red — even if only in the Sprint — thanks to favorable conditions and a setup that, for once, worked. But since then, something has gone wrong: “Since Shanghai, we’ve lost performance. It’s as if there’s hidden potential in the car that we can’t unlock. Until we solve that, we’ll keep struggling.”
Despite the difficult moment, Lewis Hamilton hasn’t lost faith: “I truly believe that once we fix the car’s issues, we’ll be back fighting with Mercedes and Red Bull. But that moment can’t come soon enough.”
Ferrari has planned a series of updates for the upcoming Grands Prix, but there’s a feeling that aerodynamic changes alone won’t be enough. The British driver himself has asked to be more involved in technical decisions — a sign that the synergy between him and the team is still being built: “We’re working on all the processes. We’ll try something different already at the next race. I can’t wait to fight for a real podium. That would be great.” – Lewis Hamilton concluded.
