The Barcelona GP feels like a turning point for this 2025 Formula 1 season, and Fred Vasseur is well aware of it—Ferrari must absolutely take advantage of the technical directive. In the meantime, though, no one knows what might happen with the competitors, and for now, all that can be done is make assumptions (and say prayers).
The Miami GP left more questions than answers at Ferrari. A seventh and eighth place finish for Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton—earned with difficulty and far from the podium—once again highlighted the SF-25’s struggles. Frédéric Vasseur tried to clarify the situation, commenting on the large gap Ferrari suffered compared to McLaren.
Internal strategy: “We did what we had to do”
The Miami GP sparked a lot of discussion, especially around the team radio exchange with Hamilton, but the team principal’s focus remained on the main issue: the lack of pure performance compared to rivals. “We finished eighth and seventh instead of seventh and eighth. I’d rather talk about why we ended up a minute behind McLaren,” Fred Vasseur said frankly.
According to the Ferrari TP, the biggest problem was in qualifying—the worst of the year: “We lost everything there. It was the most negative Saturday of the season.” Tyre management remains an Achilles’ heel, but even a perfect starting grid wouldn’t have changed Sunday’s outcome: “Today McLaren was on another planet. We never claimed we could fight them for the win.”
Looking ahead, Fred Vasseur pointed to the Spanish GP as a possible turning point in the technical balance of the championship. “In Barcelona, we’ll all have a new front wing due to the regulations. Maybe it will be a reset for everyone.” – the French manager concluded.
The introduction of new common specifications could indeed shake up the current pecking order, especially on a technical circuit like Montmeló where every aerodynamic detail matters. Within Ferrari, there is hope that this could be the moment to relaunch a so-far disappointing season. Until qualifying in Barcelona arrives, it will be impossible to know where the Scuderia stands compared to the others.
