After a year of adaptation that has not been without difficulties, the former Mercedes world champion is still searching for the right key to make the SF-25 more competitive on the demanding Singapore street circuit.
“I need more aggression and confidence in braking”
The seven-time world champion has not hidden his struggles in adapting to the Brembo brake systems used by Ferrari, after more than a decade with Carbon Industries brakes at Mercedes. “I think there are improvements to be made in how aggressive I can be,” Hamilton told the media.
“The car has been quite nervous, and I am not yet 100% confident when I go on the attack in braking zones. At Monza I was, but in Azerbaijan it was not the same with the setup we had. It is still progressing,” added the British driver.
Lewis Hamilton is convinced that confidence under braking will be crucial not only for his own performance but also for reigniting Ferrari’s ambitions in a championship where Mercedes and Red Bull are locked in a tight battle for second place in the constructors’ standings.
“McLaren has been ahead all year, and we have not really made steps forward. We are a couple of steps behind,” admitted Lewis Hamilton. “Red Bull brought an updated floor in Italy and now they have regained momentum, I expect them to win some races.”
The Singapore Grand Prix, with its sharp corners and heavy braking zones, will therefore provide the perfect test to see whether Lewis Hamilton’s more aggressive approach can finally align his driving style with the full potential of Ferrari’s SF-25.
