Lewis Hamilton has spoken passionately about the long-term vision behind Mission 44, the charitable foundation he launched to help create greater opportunities for young people and improve diversity within motorsport and education.
The seven-time Formula 1 world champion explained that meaningful change takes time, especially in industries where access has historically been limited for many communities. However, Lewis Hamilton made it clear that he believes the key to creating lasting impact is reaching children at an early age and helping them believe that a future in motorsport is possible.
“Yeah, I mean, ultimately I understand that change is never quick,” Lewis Hamilton said. “It takes time to build, and I think it ultimately starts at grassroots. And so catching them young, catching that interest young, sparking that dream early on.”
The Ferrari driver described his role as continuing to remove barriers that may prevent talented young people from entering motorsport or related industries. Lewis Hamilton also highlighted how proud he is of the progress Mission 44 has already achieved since its launch.
“My job and my role here is to try and continue to knock down those barriers, continue to try and create access,” the Briton explained. “And that’s one I’m really proud of what we’ve done with Mission 44, because we’ve already reached over half a million kids.”
Mission 44 initially began in the United Kingdom, but Lewis Hamilton revealed that the project has now expanded into the United States as part of a broader global strategy. According to the Ferrari driver, more than two million dollars have already been invested into projects designed to create opportunities for young people.
Lewis Hamilton also emphasized that the initiative’s growth would not be possible without support from partners and organizations that share the same values and vision for inclusion and accessibility.
“I can’t do it alone,” Lewis Hamilton admitted. “We’re slowly picking up great partners and people that are like-minded and allies that are on the road and want to create impact as well.”
One of the most encouraging aspects for Lewis Hamilton has been seeing real pathways into Formula 1 emerge through the program. The British driver revealed that many scholars supported through the initiative have already found opportunities within the sport.
“Out of like 13 scholars we’ve had so far, eight of them have made their way into Formula 1,” Lewis Hamilton said. “And we’re hoping the rest of them will get through. So we’ve had like a 100% rate so far, which is amazing to see.”
Beyond his achievements on track, Lewis Hamilton has increasingly focused on using his platform to create wider social impact. While fans continue to follow his Ferrari journey closely, initiatives like Mission 44 have become an equally important part of his legacy away from Formula 1 racing.
The British driver ended his message with a powerful reminder aimed at younger generations dreaming of one day entering motorsport.
“I just got to keep on doing the work, you know, and continue to inspire these young kids that anything is possible.”
