F1 | Could Lewis Hamilton pursue a career in film after retirement? He reveals his role in the Brad Pitt movie
Lewis Hamilton has been actively involved in the production of the F1 movie: the British driver is already thinking about a future in cinema. The seven-time World Champion is a global icon and is laying the groundwork for life after racing. Lewis Hamilton recently shared the role he played in the F1 film production, revealing his potential future involvement in the world of cinema.
The project’s success alongside Brad Pitt has made it one of the highest-grossing sports films ever. Formula 1 is enjoying unprecedented global popularity, and anything associated with it is attracting attention worldwide. According to various reports, a sequel is also expected in the future, aiming to match the success of the first edition.
Hamilton’s contribution to the production
Lewis Hamilton participated in the production of the F1 movie and, in an interview with Vanity Fair, he explained the areas where he contributed: “When I signed up, I didn’t know it would be four years. I didn’t know how much time it would take. I haven’t been on many other sets, but this was more personal. Perhaps the new generation of kids will grow up watching the races.” – the Ferrari man pointed out.
“For the writer Ehren Kruger, being American was completely new. He had to learn on the job, and my goal was to help him navigate this process,” added the Ferrari driver. “The terminology he used was what he assumed was the essence of racing, but it was naturally far from it. I helped him change the words, make them sound like racing jargon, and make them more realistic compared to what we actually experience in that world.”
The most challenging aspect, however, involved a more “technical” part of the filming. For cost reasons, Formula 2 cars were used, which required some modifications to make them appear as F1 cars: “The sounds they tried to overlay—gear shifts and F1 car noises—didn’t match the corners. That was the longest and most intricate part for me, having to sit and think: ‘We need to use that gear sound, that’s a second-gear corner, so the engine has to be in second gear.’”
The future in the world of cinema
The interview with Vanity Fair also touched on the possibility of a new career after F1: “Me directing a film? No, I wouldn’t do that. This was the first time I had an experience like this, sitting down and learning from a master like him. As for directing, I don’t think that’s in the plans. I enjoy the production process, so it’s something I will continue to do,” the British driver added.
Lewis has always pursued activities beyond racing. His two main passions are music and cinema, and his career after retirement could naturally continue along these lines. Ferrari’s #44 driver has expressed his goal of having something to keep him engaged once his Formula 1 chapter comes to an end.
Lewis Hamilton has never hidden his passion for music and film outside the cockpit. With his racing career entering its final chapters, the man wearing the famous #44 at Ferrari has made no secret of wanting something substantial to fill the void when he eventually hangs up his helmet – and movie production now looks like a serious contender.
