Lewis Hamilton eliminated in SQ1 with Ferrari at Spa for the Belgian GP Sprint Race: “We don’t have a great car. Tomorrow we will try to fight back”
Friday at Spa-Francorchamps proved one of the most challenging days in recent memory for seven-time World Champion Lewis Hamilton and his Ferrari team. Eliminated in 18th position during the first phase of Sprint Qualifying (SQ1), the British driver openly shared his frustrations regarding both his own performance and the technical difficulties faced by the Ferrari SF-25.
“I spun, yes, it was a rear wheel lock-up. It’s strange, I’ve never experienced that before. We don’t have a great car, I don’t have much else to say,” Lewis Hamilton told official Formula 1 media, revealing his clear disappointment after a lap cut short by a rare and inexplicable mistake.
Problems with Ferrari’s New Suspension for Lewis Hamilton?
The seven-time World Champion also referred to the newly tested rear suspension upgrade introduced in Belgium—a much-anticipated development that has yet to deliver the expected improvements. Hamilton’s feeling with the new setup appears far from positive, and the car’s behavior in the mixed conditions at Spa-Francorchamps made it even harder to assess the true performance gains.
A Look Ahead to Saturday: “We Will Try Something”
Despite the disappointment, Lewis Hamilton remained determined and reaffirmed his fighting spirit ahead of the rest of the weekend: “Tomorrow is another day. We will try to do something even though it is very frustrating. A lot of work has been done, but finding ourselves in this situation is definitely not nice. Still, we have work to do tomorrow.” – the seven-time Formula 1 world champion pointed out.
His comments convey realism and determination: Lewis Hamilton acknowledges the team’s difficulties but shows no intention of giving up. Ferrari is experiencing a complicated weekend, and the focus now shifts to the Sprint Race and Sunday’s main event, where capitalizing on every opportunity will be crucial amid still unpredictable weather conditions.
