Lewis Hamilton talks about his new life at Ferrari and the legacy of Niki Lauda
Lewis Hamilton continues to live a historic chapter of his career with Ferrari. In a long interview, the British champion spoke about the impact of his arrival in Maranello, describing the scale of the project and the emotions that have accompanied him since his very first day.
“I knew that joining our brands together would be something huge,” explained Hamilton. “But when I actually saw it happen, it hit me. It’s even more powerful than I imagined. It’s beautiful, even though it comes with a lot of responsibility. Everyone expects us to win immediately, but Rome wasn’t built in a day.”
The seven-time world champion then reflected on the complexity of the work within the team and the external expectations: “Only when you’re inside a team can you really understand how Formula 1 works. I can only focus on what I can control: the preparation, the way I work with the team, how I show up every day with the right energy.”
A touching part of the interview was dedicated to his bond with Niki Lauda, the legendary Austrian driver who convinced him to join Mercedes and who would have celebrated 50 years since his first world title with Ferrari.
“When I arrived in F1, Niki came from a world that couldn’t accept me for who I was,” recalled Hamilton. “Then he called me to convince me to join Mercedes. He said: ‘You’re like me, a real racer.’ From that moment, all the barriers fell.”
Lewis Hamilton also remembered their last moments together: “We taught each other things. We laughed a lot, and he fought until his last breath. He used to send me video messages saying: ‘I’m coming back…’ I loved him for that strength.”
With these words, Lewis Hamilton confirms not only the strength of his bond with Ferrari’s history but also how deep his connection is with the legend who came before him.
