Lewis Hamilton has strongly defended the Ferrari personnel following a disappointing qualifying session at the Qatar Grand Prix, while directing sharp criticism at the media. Here are the words of the seven-time world champion.
The British driver will start from 18th on the grid in Qatar, but his comments after qualifying focused not only on the struggles of the SF-25 but also on the people working tirelessly at Ferrari. Lewis Hamilton spoke out against the media, accusing them of spreading constant negativity.
Ferrari team principal Frédéric Vasseur’s decision not to speak to the press reflects a very delicate moment for the team. Any statement can spark controversy, and remaining silent might be the safest option. Drivers can do little more than drive the underperforming SF-25 on the challenging Lusail circuit. President John Elkann noted that the “car has improved,” but Charles Leclerc’s dramatic spin in Q3 tells a different story. Lewis Hamilton expressed disappointment at the results but stressed that external pressures also do not help Ferrari emerge from difficulties.
Hamilton: “There’s a huge impact on many people”
“I think results are certainly important for all the mechanics, for all the engineers who come every weekend, for everyone working at the factory. I’m sure it’s tough for them. They are working hard and giving their best, but I don’t think it’s about development—it’s simply what we’ve had to face this year. And then there’s the constant negativity in the media and things like that. It affects them, they go home to their families and say ‘they said this,’ and I’m sure it’s tough for them. So there’s a huge impact on many people,” Lewis Hamilton explained.
Undoubtedly, the seven-time champion is right about the media. However, this is a direct consequence of Ferrari’s less-than-optimal work over the winter. If Ferrari were winning, these criticisms would not exist. Building a car capable of fighting for the world championship must be Maranello’s top priority.
The 2026 Formula 1 campaign is looming fast, and if the next Prancing Horse turns out to be another flop, criticism will be the least of their worries.
