The British Grand Prix at Silverstone was described by Scuderia Ferrari team principal Frederic Vasseur as “the best weekend of the year in terms of pure performance shown by both cars.” Fred Vasseur even stated that the overall performance at Silverstone surpassed what the team had demonstrated during the Monaco Grand Prix weekend earlier this season.
However, despite these optimistic comments, the potential of the SF-25 – Ferrari’s 2025 Formula 1 challenger – once again appeared to remain largely theoretical. In Saturday’s qualifying session, held in dry conditions, both Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc failed to progress beyond the third row of the starting grid. On race day, the Scuderia Ferrari team only managed to secure a fourth-place finish with Lewis Hamilton, while Charles Leclerc crossed the line in a disappointing fourteenth position, far from the points-scoring zone.
Lewis Hamilton remains optimistic
Despite missing out on a podium finish at his home race, Lewis Hamilton expressed a constructive outlook when speaking to the crowd of passionate supporters waiting for him in the fan zone after the race. The 40-year-old British driver stated: “I find myself with a car that I haven’t contributed to developing in any way, but there is still so much to learn from a day like this.” His comments reflect the transitional nature of his first season with the Maranello-based team, as he adapts to a car concept designed before his arrival.
Lewis Hamilton’s analysis then went deeper, as he revealed an important detail from Ferrari’s internal team meeting after the race: “I’ve just come out of a debriefing session where we discussed our problems, and both Charles and I were able to precisely identify what the issue is. I had initially thought that there were certain aspects of the SF-25 I would like to keep, but now I’m convinced that some of those elements must be changed in order to move further up the competitive order. We’re actively working on that.”
The Ferrari driver and former Mercedes star then emphasized the importance of what is happening behind the scenes at Ferrari’s Maranello headquarters: “There’s a massive restructuring effort taking place in the background to bring this team to the level we all want it to reach. Hopefully, by next year, we will be able to compete with McLaren and fight for victories consistently.”
This signals not only a technical rebuild but also a cultural transformation underway within Ferrari, as Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc attempt to guide the legendary Italian team back to the front of the Formula 1 grid.
