Charles Leclerc speaks again about his new teammate at Ferrari, highlighting things Lewis Hamilton has done that he never would have expected.
The Leclerc-Hamilton pairing formed this year at Ferrari represents a perfect blend: the talent of the young Monegasque alongside the experience of a seven-time world champion. However, as Charles Leclerc himself admitted, there are aspects of his new teammate that took him by surprise—certain behaviors he did not expect from him.
Since the announcement of car number 44’s arrival in Maranello, it has been the main topic of discussion. Everyone’s attention was on what could happen at Ferrari, with what is perhaps the strongest pairing on the grid in terms of pure talent. Unfortunately, due to the performance of the SF-25, both drivers have had few opportunities to fully express their potential.
In fact, on more than one occasion, the two have found themselves fighting hard against each other, not holding back in radio communications that were on the edge. And often, unfortunately, it was Lewis Hamilton who came off worse, as he continues to struggle to adapt to a Ferrari that is vastly different from his former Mercedes.
Despite this minor internal rivalry, Charles Leclerc has never failed to emphasize his respect for the seven-time world champion. In an interview with RacingNews365, he shared what impressed him most about Hamilton—something he never expected.
“I expected a lot from Lewis’s arrival in the team. Having achieved so much success in F1, I expected to see his speed and some of his ‘special’ traits… predictable things, let’s say. But above all, I was really impressed by his braking: the lateness with which he hits the pedal is incredible. In my career, when comparing myself to various teammates, I was always the one who braked latest. I admit Lewis has something extra in that area.” – the Monegasque driver pointed out.
“But what surprised me the most, and it’s something I truly didn’t expect, is his discipline. It’s impressive. I’ve seen him handle an incredible number of things on several occasions, and I asked myself: ‘How does he do it? It must be so hard.’ Yet he’s super organized in everything. He focuses 200% on racing, but also manages to keep all his other projects running smoothly. That’s something I’ll take as an example, because I also have several projects outside of racing.”
