Lewis Hamilton faces frustration in Miami amid Ferrari SF-25 performance concerns. Lewis Hamilton qualified seventh for the Miami GP Sprint, highlighting Ferrari’s ongoing pace issues.

Lewis Hamilton, 2025 F1

Lewis Hamilton delivered a reality check for Ferrari at the Miami Grand Prix by acknowledging once again that the SF-25 is “lacking speed,” as performance issues continue to hold back the Scuderia. The seven-time Formula 1 world champion could manage only seventh place in Sprint Qualifying, finishing more than five-tenths behind surprise polesitter Kimi Antonelli.

Lewis Hamilton’s result placed him behind his Ferrari teammate Charles Leclerc, who echoed similar frustrations over the car’s lack of pace. Despite showing some promise during free practice, Ferrari ended up as only the fourth fastest team on the grid—a familiar position for the Italian outfit so far this season.

The British driver expressed that he had felt more comfortable with the car in earlier sessions. Reflecting on his performance, Lewis Hamilton remarked that he thought the session had been stronger, particularly during FP1, when the car had been more pleasant to drive. However, he reiterated that the team was simply short on speed and that he would continue pushing forward from that point.

While overtaking at the Miami International Autodrome is not impossible, it remains a significant challenge—one that Lewis Hamilton believes will make progress during the Sprint race difficult. He indicated little optimism about moving up the order, stating that the cars ahead all appeared to have superior pace, leaving him with limited opportunities to advance.

Nonetheless, Ferrari will have a chance to tweak Lewis Hamilton’s car setup following the Sprint race on Saturday, as parc fermé regulations will temporarily lift ahead of Grand Prix qualifying. Although the Maranello squad has a few ideas in mind for potential adjustments, the Briton made it clear that no changes come with a guarantee of success.

The seven-time Formula 1 world champion acknowledged that while there are always theories to explore, it’s uncertain whether any of them will deliver the needed improvements. He added that the team could still take valuable lessons from Friday’s performance—particularly in understanding how setup changes influenced the SF-25’s behavior on track.

Looking ahead, the British driver admitted that Ferrari still has work to do if they want to unlock more speed and mount a competitive challenge over the rest of the weekend in Miami.
