Charles Leclerc finished Friday in Miami with a lot of disappointment after the sprint qualifying didn’t go as hoped. The Monegasque had pointed out from the start of the weekend that the track didn’t suit Ferrari’s characteristics. Charles Leclerc didn’t hide his frustration after the sprint qualifying in Miami: here are his words and what went wrong.
Charles Leclerc finished in sixth place in the qualifying for the Saturday sprint race in Miami. To be precise, he was ahead of his teammate by two-tenths, but three-tenths off the fastest time of the session, which was set by Kimi Antonelli.
It was a bittersweet qualifying for Italy, as they celebrated the first Italian pole position in sixteen years, but had to face Ferrari’s latest setback. Charles Leclerc himself admitted he was not happy with the result. “The lap was good, but the pace is absolutely not there. It’s a bit frustrating, but the situation is what it is for now.”
Charles Leclerc and the prospects for the rest of the weekend
The Monegasque driver spoke about what he expects from the sprint race with little optimism. He kept everyone on edge by hinting at some magic at the start but kept his feet on the ground. “Tomorrow, I’ll do my best to try to do something special at the start. But honestly, there’s not much room for improvement based on what we saw today, the car is what it is at the moment.” – the Monegasque driver pointed out at the end of the Miami Sprint qualifying session.
Looking at Ferrari’s situation, Charles Leclerc tried to explain the areas where the car needs improvement, but the gaps seem to be too many. “Where do we lose the most? In every corner, actually, we’re not particularly fast. Yes, the slow corners are a bit of our weak point, but it changes from weekend to weekend, so we’re not doing great.”
