Lewis Hamilton credits Ferrari supporters for inspiring his Formula 1 comeback
Lewis Hamilton has described Ferrari’s passionate supporters as one of the biggest reasons he managed to overcome the most difficult chapter of his Formula 1 career, admitting their unwavering belief helped him recover from a season filled with disappointment and self-doubt.
Only days have passed since the seven-time Formula 1 World Champion celebrated his long-awaited first Grand Prix victory as a Ferrari driver at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. The landmark success marked a turning point in a partnership that, only months earlier, had appeared to be facing serious questions after an extremely difficult debut campaign.
Throughout the 2025 season, the Briton struggled to consistently extract performance from Ferrari’s package, while expectations surrounding one of the sport’s greatest drivers only intensified. Speculation about his future became increasingly common, with some observers even questioning whether retirement could arrive sooner than expected.
One of the defining moments of that difficult period came after an early qualifying exit at the Hungarian Grand Prix, when Lewis Hamilton openly questioned his own performances and suggested Ferrari might have been better served by selecting another driver. Those comments reflected just how frustrated he had become during a season in which very little seemed to go his way.
Fast forward less than a year, however, and the situation has changed dramatically. Lewis Hamilton has rediscovered his confidence, delivered his first Ferrari victory and firmly re-established himself as a genuine contender near the front of the Formula 1 field. The victory in Spain has also significantly boosted his championship campaign, leaving him within striking distance of championship leader Kimi Antonelli.
Lewis Hamilton says Ferrari fans never stopped believing
Ferrari’s worldwide fanbase has long been recognised as one of the sport’s greatest strengths. Charles Leclerc has frequently spoken about the unique connection between the Scuderia and the Tifosi, and Lewis Hamilton has now experienced that extraordinary support firsthand.
Reflecting on his emotional breakthrough after winning in Barcelona, the Briton explained that the encouragement he received from Ferrari supporters, together with the backing of his family and closest friends, played a decisive role in helping him escape the negative mindset that had developed during the previous season.
The British driver admitted that looking back on the victory would always be difficult to put into words because the emotions exceeded anything he had imagined. He explained that, despite the setbacks and growing negativity throughout 2025, he never lost faith in his decision to join Ferrari or in the long-term potential of the project.
Lewis Hamilton also acknowledged that the difficult experiences of the previous campaign ultimately made him stronger. According to the Ferrari driver, entering a new season with a fresh perspective, combined with the continuous support of those around him, allowed him to rebuild his confidence and return to winning ways.
He concluded by expressing immense gratitude toward everyone inside Ferrari, praising the team’s passion, humility and dedication. Lewis Hamilton stressed that he feels incredibly proud to represent the Maranello-based squad and to work alongside people who share the same determination to return Ferrari to the top of Formula 1.
