Lewis Hamilton’s nightmare continues
Lewis Hamilton’s 2025 Dutch Grand Prix ended in disappointment with a retirement on lap 23 after an accident. The seven-time world champion had shown optimism after qualifying, having adopted a new working approach with his side of the Ferrari garage. Although starting seventh on the grid at Zandvoort was not an ideal position on a circuit where overtaking is notoriously difficult, the British driver had hoped to climb back into contention during the race.
A crash ends Lewis Hamilton’s race
After a clean start, Lewis Hamilton spent the opening stages of the race holding seventh place before his afternoon came to a sudden end at Turn 3. The Ferrari SF-25 stepped out at the rear while climbing the banked section, and Lewis Hamilton was unable to catch the slide, hitting the wall front-on. His race ended prematurely after just 23 of the scheduled 72 laps. To make matters worse for Scuderia Ferrari, the Safety Car triggered by Hamilton’s crash came just after Charles Leclerc had made his pit stop, compromising his strategy as well.
Lewis Hamilton’s words after the crash
“I don’t really know what happened, I’ll need to review the replays. As I was going up the banking, I had a snap at the rear and couldn’t recover it. The car felt a bit nervous, but I think we made real progress this weekend and the pace was actually quite good. I was closing the gap to George Russell and I think I had the speed to overtake some cars ahead. Not finishing a race and going out so early is very unusual. It’s not a nice feeling, but that’s how it went.” – the Ferrari driver concluded.
