The attention surrounding Lewis Hamilton’s first months at Ferrari is inevitably high, making a “normal” incident like the one in Barcelona—where the Briton crashed into the wall with the SF-23—appear worse than it actually is.
The seven-time world champion, taking part in the second phase of TPC at Montmelò, lost control of the car before hitting the barriers. While the accident certainly disrupts Ferrari’s planned program, it was, in some ways, foreseeable.
The 1,000 kilometers Hamilton will cover (at least in part) over these days will help him and the team get in sync before the new season, which Tifosi hope will mark a turning point.
Not the first time
Looking back at Hamilton’s career so far, there are clear similarities with what happened in Barcelona.
In 2007, the seven-time champion experienced a similar situation with McLaren. At the time, testing was held at the Valencia circuit to help “the new rookie” get accustomed to the MP4-22. That season turned out to be a success, with Hamilton coming close to winning the title in his debut year.
New team, same story. In 2013, the year he moved to Mercedes, Hamilton was involved in a crash at Jerez, caused in that case by a brake failure.

We all know how his journey with the Silver Arrows turned out. That’s why Tifosi are hoping that what happened in Barcelona is just an unlucky start to a season filled with success.
