Lewis Hamilton’s accident in the morning, during the second day of testing in Barcelona, disrupted the planned work schedule. In the Ferrari garage, the SF-23 was repaired just as darkness was setting in on the track, meaning Charles did not get to drive. Tomorrow, Giovinazzi and Beganovic will complete the program in the red car.
The second of Ferrari’s three testing days at the Catalunya circuit was affected by Lewis Hamilton’s crash. At eleven in the morning, the seven-time world champion went off at Turn 12, significantly damaging the front of the car. The repairs took several hours, finishing late in the afternoon when visibility on the track was already low.
As a result, Charles Leclerc’s scheduled session was canceled. He was supposed to take over from Hamilton after the lunch break, but the team chose not to alter the original plan, which has Antonio Giovinazzi and Dino Beganovic running tomorrow. Both Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc left the circuit. While Lewis’ crash disrupted part of the program, Ferrari will still be able to make up for the lost mileage in the future.
It is worth noting that from this season, the FIA has introduced a maximum limit of 1,000 kilometers per team per calendar year for testing with a “previous car” from the past three seasons. This means Ferrari could extend its presence at Catalunya next week (after the scheduled Pirelli tests) to complete its planned program.
