Renowned Italian journalist and longtime Formula 1 commentator Leo Turrini shared his thoughts on the future of Scuderia Ferrari’s current Team Principal, Frédéric Vasseur, during the latest episode of Sky Sport F1’s post-race analysis show Race Anatomy.
Leo Turrini’s comments came as the speculation grows over whether Frédéric Vasseur will remain at the helm of the Scuderia beyond the 2025 Formula One season and into 2026—a year that will mark one of the most significant regulatory overhauls in the sport’s modern era.
Leo Turrini’s View on Frédéric Vasseur
The Italian journalist offered a candid opinion on the matter, stressing that the decision regarding Vasseur’s future must come directly from Ferrari’s top leadership. “I believe that whether Vasseur stays or goes is a decision that must be made by the ownership,” Leo Turrini stated.
He went on to mention that if Ferrari President John Elkann, along with Chief Executive Officer Benedetto Vigna and Vice Chairman Piero Ferrari, are convinced that Frédéric Vasseur is the right person to lead the team into the new era, then they should not hesitate. In that case, Leo Turrini said, the team should renew Fred Vasseur’s contract without delay and publicly confirm that he is the individual chosen to guide Scuderia Ferrari forward.
On the other hand, if the same senior figures within the Ferrari hierarchy—Elkann, Vigna, and Piero Ferrari—have reached the conclusion that Fred Vasseur is not the right man for the role, then a decision to part ways should be made immediately. According to Leo Turrini, what cannot be tolerated is a lingering state of uncertainty around such a pivotal leadership position, especially given the timing.
Leo Turrini concluded by emphasizing that indecision is dangerous and unacceptable, especially in the lead-up to 2026, a season in which Formula 1 will undergo major technical and engine regulation changes that require early planning and consistent leadership.
Why This Decision Matters Now
In fact, if there is one thing Scuderia Ferrari must absolutely avoid as it approaches one of the most transformative rule changes in the history of the Formula One World Championship, it is ambiguity regarding the identity and continuity of the team principal. The role is too central to be left unresolved at such a critical time.
Should Frédéric Vasseur remain in charge, the team would benefit from continuity and internal stability. The entire technical and sporting staff currently operating within the Scuderia has been selected or approved by the French team boss, and keeping him in place would allow that group to keep building uninterrupted. Conversely, if the French manager were to depart at the end of the 2025 Formula 1 season, Ferrari would be forced to begin yet another internal reshuffle, triggering a new cycle of restructuring with no guaranteed results. Such a scenario would risk further delay in adapting to the 2026 rules and could compromise competitiveness from the outset of the new era.
And What Do You Think?
Do you believe that Frédéric Vasseur should continue as Ferrari’s team principal in the 2026 Formula One season? Do you agree with Leo Turrini’s assessment that, whatever decision the management makes, it must be communicated as soon as possible—for the benefit and long-term success of the Scuderia?
