Veteran Italian journalist Leo Turrini has openly criticized Ferrari’s top management, specifically targeting the comments made by the company’s Chief Executive Officer, Benedetto Vigna, regarding the future of Team Principal Frédéric Vasseur. Turrini voiced his concerns in a blog post published on his well-known motorsport blog Profondo Rosso, where he regularly shares insights and opinions on Formula 1, particularly matters concerning Scuderia Ferrari.
Turrini explained that he found Vigna’s recent statement, delivered in the paddock at the Silverstone circuit during the 2025 British Grand Prix weekend, to be troubling. The CEO of Ferrari, when asked about the future of Frédéric Vasseur—whose current contract is set to expire—reportedly answered with a vague and noncommittal remark: “We have time to think about it.”
For Leo Turrini, such a response is far from reassuring. He described it as “inquietante,” meaning disturbing or unsettling, especially in the context of Formula 1, where strategic decisions must be made well in advance to ensure stability, continuity, and long-term competitiveness. The Italian journalist went on to explain that Formula 1 does not operate on improvisation or hesitation.
According to Turrini, decisions regarding both long-term planning and personnel management need to be taken with foresight and precision, particularly within a team of Ferrari’s caliber. He emphasized that such matters should not be handled with delay or ambiguity, especially given the immense pressure that comes with competing at the top level of international motorsport.
While Leo Turrini clarified that he does not personally support the “football-style” approach of constantly changing team structures or leadership in reaction to short-term results, he also insisted that clarity is essential. He argued that if Ferrari’s top management, including Benedetto Vigna and Chairman John Elkann, truly believe in Frédéric Vasseur’s leadership and vision for the future of the Scuderia’s sporting division, they should publicly confirm their confidence and renew his mandate without hesitation.
On the other hand, if their trust in Fred Vasseur has diminished or if there are doubts about his suitability to lead the Gestione Sportiva—the department that oversees Ferrari’s Formula 1 activities—then, according to Leo Turrini, the team should take decisive action and make the necessary changes.
Indecision, he warned, would only undermine Ferrari’s efforts to regain its competitiveness and return to winning form in the championship.
Turrini concluded his blog post by thanking his readers and reiterating his call for greater transparency and decisiveness from Ferrari’s leadership. His sharp critique reflects the frustration felt by many longtime Ferrari supporters who continue to wait for the team to deliver on its potential, following years of strategic missteps, management reshuffles, and near misses on the track.
