Lewis Hamilton might not be the only one taking the road from Stuttgart to Maranello. The task and desire of the seven-time Formula 1 world champion are to grace his Maranello adventure with successes, and to achieve that, he will be willing to ask his trusted men to make the same choice, Peter Bonnington above all.
This is the opinion of well-known Italian journalist and Ferrari insider Leo Turrini, who explained:
“Would Hamilton make such a choice if he wasn’t convinced that he could find in Maranello what he thought he could no longer find in Mercedes? Because it’s obvious, maybe he’ll win all the Grand Prix races in 2024, and then I’ll put ashes on my head. But now he’s leaving Mercedes with this clear advance because he has matured the idea, or the certainty, that he won’t win with Mercedes anymore.
So, guys, we are facing something enormous here. Do you think it’s possible for someone like Lewis Hamilton, with the history he has, to accept such a challenge without being able to bring his absolute trusted people to Maranello? Hamilton is Hamilton. And having matured the conviction that he won’t win the eighth title with Mercedes, he decided to seize the opportunity that opened up with Ferrari since we haven’t touched the ball since 2007-2008. He comes to win!” – the Italian journalist pointed out.
“From 2026, he is convinced that, after a year of necessary transition, he will be given a great car to compete for the title with Charles Leclerc and, of course, also with Verstappen and Red Bull. Here, he is doing the same operation as when he left McLaren to go to Mercedes. Few remember, but in 2013, Hamilton went to Mercedes instead of Schumi, he won something but nothing special, he was never in the title fight but considered that, 2013, as a transitional year because from 2014 he knew that with the new rules, hybrid engines, and so on, Mercedes would guarantee a huge leap in quality. Hamilton is now betting on the same thing but with Ferrari.” – Leo Turrini continued.

“So what we should understand is whether the Ferrari of 2026 will be like the Mercedes of 2014, which, after a year of getting to know, apprenticeship, studying the environment on his part, gives him a car worthy of his talent, and, I add, also worthy of Charles Leclerc’s talent. It’s all there, it’s a fascinating story, he will bring along some engineers for sure, not just Bono (Bonnington, his famous race engineer who accompanied him throughout the Mercedes era, editor’s note). But again, it depends on the car they give him!” – Ferrari insider Leo Turrini concluded.
