Leo Turrini harsh on Ferrari after the Baku GP: “Endless excuses, this is unacceptable”
Ferrari continues to struggle in Formula 1, and Leo Turrini did not hold back in his editorial after the 2025 Azerbaijan Grand Prix. The Italian journalist summed up the situation bluntly: “Even Williams and the former Minardi are ahead of Hamilton and Leclerc.” For the Scuderia, the weekend in Baku was one of suffering. Both drivers started from the back after a disastrous Saturday – Lewis Hamilton eliminated in Q2 and Charles Leclerc crashing in Q3 – and could not recover in the race due to DRS trains and reliability problems, the latter hitting the Monegasque through no fault of his own.
Vasseur highlights progress, but Ferrari still fails to deliver
Team principal Frédéric Vasseur pointed out that Ferrari’s performance has improved since Spa-Francorchamps. However, the reality is that the team still lacks the ability to turn potential into concrete results. In Azerbaijan, McLaren collapsed, but it was not Ferrari that took advantage. Max Verstappen once again shone out front, while Mercedes capitalized to move ahead of the Scuderia in the Constructors’ Championship.
Ferrari off the podium since Belgium, Sainz makes Williams shine
Since the Belgian Grand Prix, Ferrari has failed to reach the podium. In Baku, the third step was taken by Carlos Sainz and his Williams. The Spaniard, replaced this year at Ferrari by Lewis Hamilton, managed to beat the seven-time world champion in the battle for their first podium with their new teams. While the main goal for Ferrari remains the Constructors’ standings, expectations are high for a much-needed turnaround as early as the Singapore Grand Prix.
Leo Turrini’s warning: “Only victories can silence the rumors”
In his traditional column for Quotidiano.net, Turrini described a Ferrari that “is slipping into anonymity.” Despite McLaren’s collapse in Baku, it was still Red Bull, Mercedes, Williams, and even Racing Bulls that had reasons to smile.
“The classic post-race refrain is becoming unbearable: the performance was there, but we didn’t put everything together, the tires not getting up to temperature is an evergreen excuse, sometimes it’s the floor, other times the engine power drops, and on and on,” wrote Leo Turrini.
He continued: “We’ve reached autumn and there is still no solution, whether technical or managerial. Vasseur has every right to complain about the rumors spread by the media, but I hope he knows that only victories can put out the fire of speculation. And instead, here we are again: staring into a helplessness that generates resignation. It’s not good, it’s absolutely not good.”
